We're just south of the Michigan border and here if it is strictly hay $100/acre is about the going rate, more if irrigated. It used to be common practice for the land owner/tennant to split the crop 50/50 and cost of growing the crop 50/50 (seed, fertilizer, chemicals) when land owner supplied the land while tennant supplied the machinery and the labor of putting it on the wagon. From there tennant takes his half and land owner has to unload his half if they aren't his wagons or if they are his wagons he can do whatever he wants.
