Just log on to the Smith & Wesson forum...ask the guys there. The serial number should be on the butt, or in the crane area of the pistol and read like K1234567 and later years will have the model number, "MOD-14-3", etc. DO NOT take it to the police because they probably don't have the serial no. "registered" anyway. They'll just steal it from you. Keep it on the farm and shoot the heck out of it!!
