I've mixed them with no problems other than stiff coupling sometimes. Let us know what happens when you change them out. If I understand it you have an electric diverter valve. Have you checked it to see if it is working ok?
Saw a problem one time where the male tip was not long enough due to being dragged on pavement. TEMPORARY solution was to weld a small deposit on the ball, cleaning it afterward, of course. Point is, check condition of male tip, but you probably have already done that.
