Yea, you really should be finding at least 6 different plate types - s,m,l in both flat & round sizes.

As they say, corn seed is graded into those different sizes, and you will need to match your seed to your plates. Look at what you ordered for seed, or ask your dealer what you are getting, and get plates that match. Round, large & small are less common because those seeds come off the ends of the cob, while medium flat comes off the whole middle of the cob - most of the time.

Anymore, with finger & vaccumn planters being common, seed grading isn't as good & accurate as it used to be when everyone had plate planters.
