When you mentioned the spring thing looked like it got hot don't you suppose the coil might have too? I bet no or weak spark and coil is toast and maybe module too? Put some Denso plugs in there or try them sometime. I've even had a set of AC plugs bad out of the box before on a new engine and that was aggravating. Yeah the Accel coils were hot and good but there are others now hotter for less $$. Good luck.
