A standby generator is just as vital as. Life insurance, fire extinguishers and steel toed/sole work boots. Of course flowers/card/chocolate on the wife�s birthday, valentines and wedding anniversary goes without saying. 5KW is the absolute minimum. So many people purchase a 1500,2250 or 3500 and think they can run one load at a time. The little generators often can not supply enough volts and amps to start a refrigerant compressor, sump pump or well pump. Generac is American made and good value for the $$$. Parts are easy to come by at Jacksmallengines or smallenginewarehouse. Of course a proper transfer switch is required if powering up the entire service. Of course
