Mike,it was an interesting topic.Thanks.I forgot to mention a
couple of things.

A family member playing with matches in some hay (not me)
burnt down the big old barn on our farm in 1963.I was 14
then.The place just didnt seem the same after that fire.You have
to drive quite a few miles around here before you can find a
barn.

My late Mom was born in 1908 and in 1913 her parents moved
to a farm near Lindsborg,KS.Lightning had struck the barn
shortly before they bought the farm so a new barn was built in
1913.It still stands today.

One mile down the road south is the old one room school (Mt
Hope)that she and her 8 brothers and sisters attended.Its been
there since the late 1800's and still stands today.The next time
that I'm out to central Kansas I'll be taking some pictures.
