Dave: I'll bet that hydro never took a maximum pull lifetime. Are there peat bogs in the area? Those guys used a lot of those on peat moss harvesters. They needed infinate variable speeds, and wanted the traction spread out on as many wheels as possible. They couldn't take a chance on spinning a wheel, not even the space from one tread to the next. Those harvesters only worked if soil was as smooth as a gym floor.
