Oil fired heater

I have an oil fired space heater in the shop. It has the same injection pump as an oil furnace, with the electrodes igniting the fuel. It started to smoke more than usual, do you think if I turn up the pressure on the pump it will make a better pattern for the electrodes to ignite the fuel? I put on a new nozzle 1 year ago. This heater is not like most with the air lift on the fuel. The pump is about 4 inches long and 3 inches across. Just like the old oil furnaces that were in houses.
