Most diesels turn the oil black almost instantly but not all. It's normal. I had a Hino truck with a rebuilt engine. It didn't use a drop of oil but when you started it, especially in winter it would choke you out. The smoke was so bad that if you were standing 50 ft. away you couldn't see the truck. After it warmed up, it had no smoke at all. Idling is bad for diesels. That's why semi drivers always turn the idle up when they're stopping for a rest. Otherwise they would start to smoke a lot and even start slobbering thick black liquid out the exhaust. Diesels need to be worked. Maybe that's all your tractor needs. Dave
