Is it just smoking when the engine is cold, warm or both? At idle or at higher engine speeds? Under load? Blue/gray/whitish smoke is usually fuel smoke - take a whiff of the smoke - if you can smell unburned fuel in it, that's what it is. Diesel engine oil usually gets black after there are some hours on it - how black and how soon depends on the condition of the engine and how it's ran. The black color is usually soot/unburned fuel, so a tractor that's not running correctly or that isn't worked hard enough to get warmed up and burn the fuel completely will blacken the oil sooner. Could be nozzles malfunctioning, pump timing, a pump problem, air filter restriction, etc.
