4020 update

OK I bought yet ANOTHER bushhog last night for $725.00. I had one I bought a year ago wich was a Bush Hog brand 406, this one is a Bush Hog brand 307.I for the first time hooked it up to the hitch thingy and drove it around. Now the 406 I have was on there first but I could not get the PTO shaft to fit it was too long. So I set that one aside and tried this other one I bought last night. The PTO did fit this time. So I cranked to the tractor up sat there for a moment and pull the BIg lever for the PTO......and BANG!!! RIP!! Rattel and ROLL, after a few seconds the cutter was spining with hardly any noise. So I decided to take it for a spin to see what it would cut.
First off it seems as if the hitch either does one thing or the other. It is either all the way up or all the way down. I can't seem to keep it in the middle. How do I set the hitch up to where the hitch will stay about a quarter the way up.
When I was cutting I barley had the motor running faster than idle. Maybe around 900 RPMS, but the cutter was cutting very clean it seemed. Is it OK to run it this slow or does it really have to run at 1900 rpms? I will go back up there with the tractor this Friday and stay the weekend again and hopefully take pictures this time!!
