The slave cylinder is terrible on those. Check to make sure it has fluid in the clutch fill tank (right above the steering column on the motor side of the firewall).

Make sure you are pressing the pedal all the way to the floor and you might try pumping it a little.

What does the FIL say? He most likely would have noticed if it had been leaking down...
