: I am looking for a used tractor to do some mowing of a ball field and maintenance of a gravel road. My budget is $3000. I will probably need a belly mower and a scrape blade. I grew up on a farm using an AC WD and a Farmall B, so I know a little about tractors, but not much about 3-pt hitch implements. I kind of like the Ford tractors, and it looks like the 8N is close to my price range, but I'm unsure about availability of the implements I need. I would appreciate advice. Thanks in advance.

You're certainly on the right track, but I would look for something that's one generation newer than the 8-N. For what you are talking about live P-T-O and live hydraulics would be really helpful.

What's the market like in your area? Can you afford a Ford 3000 or 4000? Or even the Ford 600 that's featured as the tractor of the month?

Don't be afraid of the W-D or W-D 45. They are very good tractors but don't have the standard 3 point hitch. I also love the Oliver 55 and 550, but they may be a little bit more difficult to get parts for etc.

Hope this helps.

Larry
