Before you go pumping out half a kilowatt, like some below claim, think about other users. Every time you key-up, they get your signal over the one they actually want (for miles and miles around), but they can not get out to you, to ask you nicely to go to another channel, "cos you are out of their transmission range. That is why the power output was limited in the first place - so if you can get to them, you can receive them.
