I have a 2003 f-150, with the 4.6, don"t know if they are exactly the same engine. When I first got it, it would start real hard when it was extremely cold. I had to pump the peddle a couple of times to get it to go. Took it to the dealer, they said there was a tsb for hard starting in very cold weather. They had to reflash the computer. I don"t know if that is your problem or not, but the dealer would know if you need this done or was done to your explorer. Hope this helps, NorminN.B.
