Robert...it's called "The Hardy" outside wood burning furnace. they're made in philadelphia mississippi. i have a phone #...601-656-5866 or 6948. "I" really like the thing alot. it's a "boiler" of sorts. wood heats the water which is pumped thru a heat exchanger fitted into my heat pump/AC unit so that it uses the fan from that to pump forced air heat into my house. it's very efficent on wood because it works on a demand type set-up. when the water temp drops below what it's set at, a fan comes on and blows air into the firebox til the water reaches the set temp. then it shuts down and just kinda smolders til the next time it calls for the water to be heated. i can load it up on nights like last night at about 5, and still have wood left in it at 8 or so in the morning. now for the drawbacks. you mentioned your wife not liking the smell of woodsmoke? well it does smell like woodsmoke outside around here all winter long. fortunately, we like that. if you don't have access to plenty of firewood to cut or buy cheaply, i'd say it's not for you. and of course...unless you ENJOY getting out in the woods and cutting splitting and stacking a full cord or more of wood (depending on how much use) every year like we do, this set-up isn't for you either. remember too that i have a tractor, trailer, chainsaws, etc. and other tools already for making firewood gathering as easy as possible. also, i grew up helping cut trees and gathering wood, and i also had to do a lot of tree cutting in the job i retired from. "logging" can be dangerous even for people who have experience. i guess i'm getting a bit "windy" about this subject, but i want to make sure you know "everything" that goes in to having a wood burning furnace. personally, i think it's great! i know it saves us tons of money in heat bills, but we have to work for that savings. Hardy makes at least three different sizes that i know of. we have the "big 'un" cuz we heat strictly with wood but i'm sure you can set them up for any type of use. i hope this answers your questions robert. i hope i didn't TMI you to death. (too much info) -mike
