I have a buddy with a logging business on the side who does a very creditable job with a New Holland TN 75 MFWD with a three point hitch mounted Farmi logging winch. This has a butt blade for rough trail making and backstoppping the tractor for a hard pull. The winch is PTO driven and is a pulling son of a gun. They come in various sizes. Farmi is one company that makes these, there are others. They are Norwegian. That's probably the most cost effective way to do semi-serious logging. A new of used MFWD tractor with a new or used Farmi winch. As for the professional, there are only two words the professional logger needs to know. Johnn Deere!! The John Deere 540 is the standard by which all skidders, bigger or smaller, older or newer, whatever brand are measured. Leastways up here in the hardscrabble St. Lawrence/northern Adirondacks country.
