I did educate one about 2:00 on a still and frosty morning with the 300Win. I made a lousy shot trying to hold the flashlight and the rifle. I heard the echo at leats 1/2 a dozen times.
Figured the coyote was mortally wounded the way it was rolling in the grass and yelping. Didn't want to go and investigate with the flashlight and rifle in hand incase some bunny hugger had called the authorities here who believe civilians shouldn't have firearms.
Next day however the coyote was gone. It must have crawled off and spread the word among them to stay away.
Only heard them and dog go on full alert twice in the past three months. Used to hear and see them a couple of times per week.
They must be staying away from around here as the local wild turkey population feels safe and has took over the wheat that didn't get ploughed down.
