Don't overlook the possibility of a bad starter switch! Does the starter make ANY noise when the switch is pushed (or turned) to start? Knowing what kind of tractor it is might make some of our guesses a little more accurate. Depending on what kind of tractor it is, there is a possibility that the starter has "locked" by jamming the drive gear with the ring gear on the flywheel. Loosen the starter bolts to where the starter can be shaken, then re-tighten them and try it again. There is also the possibility that something in your engine or transmission is locked and the starter simply can't move it. Try depressing the clutch to release the transmission. Someone may suggest pulling it with another tractor to MAKE it start. This is NOT a good idea; whatever is stuck will probably break if you do that! If nothing else works, jack up one rear wheel very solidly, put the tractor in the highest gear, and rock the wheel back and forth to see if the engine will turn over. Good luck, and let us know what you find!!
