Howdy folks, Well, you knew it had to be too good to be true and it was. My new toy is already making itself at home on the farm. I am, of course, speaking of the John Deere 720 that I bought back in December. I've used this thing twice so far. Once to plow back in December (until the hitch broke on the plow) and then again to bushhog some cornstalks around New Years day before the field got too sloppy. Dad had been using it to split firewood this week and had finished up. I thought about trying the cornfield again since we had had some freezes lately. Well, to make a long story short the pony wouldn't turn the big engine over. It seems that the "overhauled" pony didn't have an overhauled clutch. It is slipping to the point that I will have to pull the tractor just to get it started and into the shop. Checked some things out and discovered that I'll also have to pull the pony motor completely off the tractor just to do the job. I think I'll bend our salesman's ear tomorrow when I get back to work. He's just lucky I bought this thing and not someone else. I saw one of the ads for it before it got pulled from the magazine and it said "comletely restored, sweet". Ha ha. Oh well, every piece of equipment I buy does this when it gets to our farm. I think there's a machinery disease here or something. God bless. --old fashioned farmer
