Hay and forage equipment has to go to New Holland. Oliver and later White had the best plows, as stated in a previous post, in any soil. Making a good plow is more of an art than a science, and is one that Oliver mastered. Yes, Oliver also had the customer support to back their plow endeavor up, but Oliver plows were simply the best designed and finest crafted plows available. They often lead the market in trash clearance, pioneered hydraulic reset technology, drafted easiest, and had bottoms and shares that were sculpted in such a way as to cut through soil easily and turn the furrow slice over while pulverizing soil clods. Honorable mention goes to IH. Oliver and White also made the finest disks. Since Oliver purchased some interest in Kewaunee, I can only speculate that there may have been some commonality between the two. 1980s Deere disks were excellent too because they were made by White. In fact, they were exactly the same as a White disk but were painted that other green and priced $10,000 higher than the very same WFE disk. How's that for John Deere loyalty to the American farmer? Modern planters: the best is White. They are the most accurate, most versatile, and rugged planters on the market, period. Many times more accurate than CaseIH and more accurate than Deere. Kinze planters are quite good. Deere and NH both make very good manure spreaders.
