If it is mild steel, heating it to bend it will not affect the mechanical properties. If it is hardened steel, that is a different story. The problem with trying to get it straight is that you need to put exactly the opposite forces on it as what caused it to bend in the first place. That is extremely difficult to do. You usually have to overbend it so that it comes out close to straight. If you had a thousand ton press with a flattening die you might be able to get it done.
