I live in Wa and here is how you can vastly reduce farm truck lic cost. One if you have a farm you can cut the cost in half by getting the Lic as a Farm Truck there are some restrictions check with the state as to what they are. This would be a Farm Lic NOT a Farm Permit big difference, In Wa there is NO Lic Tag fee for any truck. The fee is for Tonnage. And misc filing fees. If you GWV is over 14000 GVW you can get tonnage by the month, just buy what you need for that month, it is available in 2000lb increments. You have to buy at least14000 for the first due reup every year that tags are due. But this can be higher a weight min depends of the empty weight of the truck. I have 10000 empty on a GMC 7000 and can buy lowest 16000 on it and a Chev 301T dually at 8000 empty and get the lowest 14000 on it.
As for insurance Grange insurance Wa will insure trucks at a very low cost even though they don't carry all of your insurance with them just need to have ANY main carrier. They can also put the insurance on when needed. Just look in the yellow page under Insurance for Grange. Most all the Trucks around here are grain dump beds mostly insured for the months "Harvest time". Mine don't dump and it does make a difference. I don't have casualty, just the legally required liability, Check it out for yourself. I think I have my costs down to as low as I can legally get ;))

PS in WA DONT get caught with more weight than you bought that will get REAL expensive for you!!!
They are real NASTY in WA about that ;((
