If you don't have a favorite breed, cross breeding Hereford and Angus (red or black) will give you a baldy calf that has hybrid vigor and finishes well. Packers like 'em, too. Selecting moderate size cattle with good disposition will keep maintenance energy requiremnts lower and will make feeding more economical. Avoid overly large frame size cows unless you have plenty of cheap feed!
