Yes, You would be way happier with the overdrive. Any "quality" tranny shop willl not mess around with anything other than a good, solid, "updated" 4L60 anyhoo. Just too darned much bad history on the earlier ones. Just make sure they understand that you want one to fit a '91/92 4X4. Also, you will have to change out the transfercase adaptor, the throttle cable and add the electrical wiring for the converter lock. Perhaps even a shorter driveshaft too in some cases. Good news is that you will gian a 27% overdrive ratio at the tranny along with an 8% efficency gain in the converter by stopping that slip. Fact is, why not just let those boys do the job? They work on 'em all day long and it would save you a bunch of head scratchin/scroungin' for parts, etc. Allan
