The tonner was the old body style and without the same serpentine belt setup? Right? I'm just thinking out loud here. It very well may be just the thermostat as you say, I dunno. However, on trucks '87 thru '90 (this is when GM was in the process of changing body styles and the tonners and Surburbans were the very last to come over), I've seen a lot of 'em that would not throw heat to the heater but yet that darned engine would run hot and it always turned out to be that silly intake gasket. If the tonner had multiple belts, you have to change not only the water pump, but the intake gaskets as well. Hope you find your difficulty. Allan
