I've got a 97 Passat TDI ( turbo diesel ). I really like it, the car gets right around 45 mpg every tank. They do have their quirks that you have to deal with, but its worth it for me to save the money on fuel with the 90 miles I drive a day round trip. A great website for tdi VW's is www.tdiclub.com.
