I can't speak from experience on the Passat but I have a Jetta TDI
and it is good mechanically but it has a lot of electrical gremlins
that are inexcusable in this day and age. The car drives great, has
a lot of torque, is great in snow, and gets 45+mpg. The 1.8T is a
sporty set up but I think it needs premium fuel (ouch!). I'd
recomend a VW with a diesel but for a gasser go for a Toyota.
