I bought my daughter a used 1999 VW Beetle. I sure haven't been impressed with it. I drive a 1997 Mercury Cougar with 215,000 miles and it still is a great, solid car. The Beetle has about 60,000 miles and has given quite a bit of trouble. Plus, the Cougar gets 27 and the Beetle gets only about 30... All things considered - I don't think the VW holds a candle to the value of the Cougar... Howard H.
