Shingles are indeed a form of the Herpes virus as already mentioned. Fever blisters and genital Herpes all from the same family as shingles are....truly only difference is where the blisters appear. Chicken Pox are reputed to be the source of shingles...but regardless of the cause, Valtrex is the medicine prescribed to treat all Herpes outbreaks..including shingles.
