IMHO, the extended cab backseat is GREAT for toting gear you want to keep at hand, and warm, but not of much use for hauling any humans over about the age of 6 or 7, unless they are midgets. I have an extended cab, and use the extra space for junque, but if the teenagers will be riding along, we take the Yukon. I have the 6.5' box, and it really SUCKS. A couple of years ago, I was a couple of hundred miles from home, at a building center, and had purchased an oak interior door. On the way home, a storm brewed up, and I pulled over, thinking I could roll my box cover tarp over the fancy door. WRONG! Even with the door low on the front, and high in the rear or vice-versa, the tarp wouldn't fit over the door. Another 1" or 2" of box length would have made all the difference. All that being said though, I'm not going to rush out and buy a crew cab with an 8' box!
