All about soils too. Here we rarely have 7" of topsoil, even in bottom ground. Plow any deeper adn you bring up old nasty yellow clay and rocks. Best we can do is 2 16's in sod ground, 3 after crops with 65HP. I pulled 4 16's with 105 HP and 2000 pounds of front weights, almost turned it over in a soft spot. I parked my moldboard and pull a 9 shank chisel plow, 86 hp I can run about 6".
