The are high inductive voltages across a condenser when the points open.About 200 volts,import makers use poor insulation that breaks down.Moisture gets into poorly sealed condensers and converts them into a resistor.Ford used oil filled condensers in the fifties,they gave little trouble.If you have a good one that shows no metal transfer on the points leave it alone.The new replacement may be junk.
