leaking fuel tank

Hello to all, I have a 1974 Ford 4000 diesel. The fuel tank is leaking. I took the tank off and welded it, but it leaks. The leak is where the bolt attaches the tank on the steering column. Has anyone used any kind of sealant or have any tips or tricks that might help? Thanks , Rick
