several companies use engines of their own design but built by others....

Oliver used waukesha, continental and hercules that way
Massey used Continental (and later baught out right perkins)
Case IH 's engines today are not Cumminns but built by cummins

some took off the shelf engines.
Cockshutt just took engines off the shelf from Budda,Continental, hercules,and perkins
Co-op's and others used off the shelf chryslers
