OT....Kick down on 700R4

I am finishing putting a 350 crate motor in my 86 K10. I added a high rise intake and an Edelbrock carburetor....now I am having trouble getting the kick down cable to the transmission (700R4) adjusted right. I don't want to burn the transmission up, are there any ways to set this other than trial and error? So far I love the power that the 350 has over the stock 305 that I took out, but this cable worries me. Any help would be appreciated. I'm off all this week...all I need to finish this is the cable and the exhaust. Mike
