Kent, how many conductors did they bury? If you have two and plan on using the ground out there for the equipment ground, I don"t think you can safely do 240 v without another conductor. You really should have 3, two hot and one neutral, if you are going to use 240 v and 120 v devices and I ran 4 so I could tie the ground back to the ground at the house.
