I had a total hip replacement 3 years that left me on a walker, then crutches for a while, but due to it's extreme deterioration before replacement I will be using a cane for the rest of my life. In my area I have found just the opposite as far as courtesy goes. People have been extremely courteous as far as lines, opening doors, etc. in this area. What does really bug me though is the number of people using handicap parking permits that don't appear to have any need of them. I suspect many of them are for other members of the family, but they use them when that member is not along. It burns me to see a young person park in a handicap spot (with a sticker on car) , go into the store at a run, while I am parking 30 or 40 yards away and hobbling with a cane.
