The 'R' had 43 HP at the belt. The drawbar HP was after all the frictional losses in the drive train, plus losses just moving its own weight around, approximately 25% losses in fact. The Rated RPM of the 'R' was only 1000, so 416 cubes translated into extremely high torque, but not much total power. Hard to believe that it was approximately equal to a WD-45 Allis Chalmers rated the same in Belt HP, but with 39HP at the drawbar...only 10% losses. Most likely because it was only slightly more than half the weight of the lumbering 'R'. But for pulling dead weight all day long out on the Wheatfields, they were great.
