I think you can cut 'em &stick 'em. I don't see the point of drying
them before putting them in the ground where they will get wet
unless they will sprout. It will be easier to drive staples or nails in
them when green.
Posts are usually black locust. Honey locust have the thorns.
Black locust is excellent fire wood and if big enough makes
attractive boards.
Osage orange makes even better posts than BL.
