Everybody missed my favorite- maybe it hasn't caught on anywhere else- the fabulous "Blue Rhino" propane exchange cabinet. Most every convenience store around here has a locked cabinet outside, full of "Blue Rhino" 5 gallon propane jugs. You take your jug in, get the attendant to come out and unlock the cabinet, and you trade your empty for a full one- and part with $17 to $23 bucks in the process. And as if CEO "Ben Dover" hasn't broken it off in you enough with that scam, you have to buy one of their bottles to start with, for a cool 50 bucks! Silly me, I take my $25 bottle I got at K Mart to a service station, have the attendant fill it, and give him about 7 bucks. But the Rhino thing is "really convenient"- so much so that I went to a barbecue at a friends place this summer- they had not one, but 2 Rhino tanks, and both were empty! So they tried to start a charcoal barbie, nobody had enough cojones to put on enough starter to actually get it burning, and I finally left with no burger at about 9:30. Some fun.
