Cleaning/Rinsing out a transmission to work on

I am going to work on the transmision and rear end on my MD. After I drain the rear end oil is there something I can put in and run it around to rinse some of the oil off of the gears and bearings. Just something to make my disassembly a little bit easier. My uncle always used diesel fuel but is there something else or will this work. It will probably be apart for a couple of weeks so will things begin to rust or not.
