electric fence revisited

Well, the fence is up. Only took time to drive one ten foot galvanized ground rod for trial. Did a final check and turned it on. Only had to wait 5 minutes for test. The critter that usually goes AWOL came to investigate and found out it won't be so easy to go. There is one side of my pasture the runs along side a road where a lot of local people walk. Some of these walkers like to stop, pet, and feed the critters at times. I don't care for the last part since I have no idea what they getting fed. Anyhow, I assume if someone decides to pet the critter that contacts the fence, it may have a dual purpose. Keeping the critters in and the walkers out. I might post signs along that side though. Just in case. The second loop of the pasture is to move them farther off the road during walking season and for rotational grazing. There is no fence at all there so I will rely on a poly tape after they learn and respect the wire. Judging from yesterday, that won't take long. Thanks for all the suggestions. I will probably do what Nathaniel suggested and run the second loop of the "8" off the same controller. I can always switch or disconnect the closer loop to go back to the far loop if need be, and only run one controller.
