Take a look at the fittings you are using where the leaks occurred, make sure you aren't trying to fit a flare fitting to a pipe fitting or o-ring fitting.... Flare fittings self seal, they have an angled surface on the male and female end to seal up with. O-ring fittings have o-rings, obviously. Pipe thread fittings require some sort of thread sealant, as already mentioned.
