Old I helped a feller do one when I was a kid.
It was off a big ol gasser dump truck. He opened it up first to clean the iside good, he said it would "blow out" when we heated it if they was any fumes inside. Then he used soldering paste to make the joint cold an then worked it with a big soldering iron. He heated the iron with propane an worked the joint after he "silvered" the tip with wire solder.
Wish I could tell you it worked but in truth the old truck had so many problems it was hard to tell if we done much good.
