I'm no mechanic, but about 14 years ago I watched my Dad bring home a Case 420 backhoe that was "a great deal." Ran good, drove forward and backward, everything worked well.

Except for the fact that the clutch was all burned up on the thing.

It would go forwad all right, but it didn't even have enough pushing power to plow the snow off the driveway. and replacing the clutches meant splitting the tractor, which we weren't really equipped to do, not to mention the cost of getting a new clutch.

So, now it sits, just rusting away.

I'm sure there's god deals out there, just make sure you know what you're getting into.
