The problem is not talking on a cell phone, it's that most people have poor driving skills. I have no problem talking on a phone (I don't do it much) and checking my mirrors, gauges and turning my head to check blind spots. I keep a mental note of vehicles around me, and I use my left pinkie for the turn signal. You only need one hand to drive an automatic. I adapt my conversations to the traffic conditions, not my driving to my conversations. If I have to, I'll tell the person I'm talking to, to hold on for a minute if traffic is busy. It all boils down to knowing your abilities and common sense.
