What he probably should do is pick up a pulley block to multiply the pulling force along with a tow strap to make up for the lost cable distance. He should research safe winching techniques as well. He also needs to learn how to judge distance, depth and general trail and stream crossing conditions BEFORE he plunges in. (I hope he wasn't in a trout stream). The extra battery might help but I think he can find ways around that at less cost. I don't want to judge atv's because I own one but it's people who think they'll go over or thru anything that tear up wetlands and streams and get trails closed for those of us who know better. ll
