Change the oil before you do anything else. Oil dillution with fuel is a common thing. If you have a hard to start diesel everytime you crank it and it doesn't fire you pass fuel into the oil. Have you been chnging it regularly. I am not saying that this is what's wrong, but if you change it then watch it closely and if it comes up quickly then you have a seal problem.
